For more than 40 years, our current electronic mail systems are still not capable of supplying us with security and privacy. Instead, users centralize at large email providers like GMail and Outlook without no way to leave.
BitMaelum leaves the old e-mail concepts behind, and provides a new way to transfer messages and files with security and privacy first. You are not bound to a centralized provider for your mail and can change whenever you want without loosing your precious mail-address.
Even though BitMaelum looks and feels the same as regular e-mail, both systems are not compatible with eachother. In order to truly combat spam and provide security and privacy, a new system had to be created.
Communicate with peers without email providers or advertisers watching your every move. You, and only you, are able to view the contents and even meta-data of your messages through end-to-end encryption.
E-mail providers are not able to read your messages to target you for advertisement or to sell your private data.
Even if your bitmaelum address is exposed on the internet, it cannot be used efficiently for sending spam, making unwanted emails a thing of the past.
BitMaelum is fully open sourced under the MIT license. The protocol, the server, clients are all available for everybody to use for free. You can download and host your own bitmaelum server, create your own client or even extend the protocol with new functionality.
